The Men In Blue (social satire)

Citizens today in Bumfuck Wisconsin dedicated a memorial to those who have died at the hands of police violence.   Today Bumfuck became a symbol of the out of control police state that has come to characterize many areas of the United States.

Until just recently citizens felt obligated to put up with the socially enforced siege of blue terror. This imposition on their civil liberties was considered the dues they had to pay for being on American soil. But that sensibility began to change after several high profile homicides at the hands of the men in blue. Children as young as 12 have been gunned down in playgrounds by overzealous men in blue. Today’s memorial to fallen civilians slain while just going about their lives addresses this escalating social phenomenon and provides a ‘Wake up America’ trumpet call that is now being heard all around the world.

The high profile homicides of civilians in public view are only the tip of the iceberg when violence by men in blue is calculated.  The violence in public is often brought right into the homes of individual men in blue. This report from the website National Center For Women & Policing in their Police Family Violence Fact Sheet reveals that  “Two studies have found that at least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence, (1, 2) in contrast to 10% of families in the general population.(3”.

What in the world is going on? Why are those entrusted with enforcing the law and maintaining social equanimity more likely to harm their own families than the average citizen is?  It may be difficult to accept but the numbers are in and it is a legitimate question to ask. So far few acceptable answers have emerged.  What is clear is that when men in blue commit crimes against their families those crimes are routinely covered up and in some cases those who report them are sent to prison and upon release denied the opportunity for employment.

The memorial to fallen innocent citizens at the hands of men in blue is not an actual reality, but should it be?  Should America have a place within its borders where those killed unlawfully by the men in blue are honored and remembered?
