Oh Dear, Oh My

The years following the 2016 Presidential election have been, to be kind, different from any that have preceded them. The American people, for some reason, elected a jackass of a man to lead them.

The Presidency of Donald Trump has been like being taken to the carnival by an insane caregiver. The people didn't realize what they had bargained for, but now they have an idea.

It isn't only the American people, but the entire world also is aghast at the behavior of the former self-proclaimed peace loving non-interventionist nation which has been at war for nearly fifty years while keeping the peace! Go figure!

Why is this happening?  The answer is simple.  This is happening due to the pursuit of profit. This type of enterprise has been going on for a long time. Two time medal of honor recipient Marine General Smedley Butler knew about this un-spoken government program long ago.  No one who was supposed to care then actually cared and the same is probably true today. Those who are supposed to care simply have not demonstrated they care all that much about war being a racket. Most Republicans and Democrats embrace war as a source of corporate revenue as this report from Global Research reveals.

Those of us who care are those who have to bleed and die, send sons and daughters to die or come home unable to do anything and then the final insult forced to pay for a continuing for profit war enterprise by working night and day at low paying jobs.  We care. We're fed up and there's a lot of us.

We are on the cusp of the most pivotal moment in the history of the U.S. and perhaps the modern industrial world.  In the upcoming election season we can replace those making laws who simply do not care about 'we the people'.  We must do this if the madness of endless for profit war is to ever end.

We as a people have come to the place where if we do not drive the rats out NOW this generation and the next… on into the endless future are forever doomed to this preposterous situation of endless war for profit. We the people could end homelessness, end the lack  of employment, end the lack of education and end the lack of healthcare if we put an end to wars for profit. We could do so much for each and everyone of us if we had an economy based on profits from peace instead of profits from war.

This next election is a do or die election.  If  the philosophy of the Republican and Democratic parties is not kept from influencing lawmakers we are doomed to fail.  It is the for profit war loving Republican and Democratic philosophies which are the cause of the present miseries on the Main Streets of America. They must not be allowed the privilege of making laws in the future. It's up to the people to stand up and throw the bastards out at the ballot box.

What we need is another government.  A GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE.  The Republicans and the Democrats are not offering that.  All they are offering is bullshit and endless war and WE THE PEOPLE are sick and tired of that Mr. Trump.

Mr. and Mrs. Goose April 28, 2018

"Mr and Mrs Goose April 28, 2018" Photography of a pair of Canada Geese who show up regularly to be photographed. They have been around for years and do not migrate, they just kind of hang out here. The male had a broken wing several seasons ago and he managed to heal but then he decided to stay around.

I Have An Idea...Organize the Dispossessed

I had an experience with a merchant today that set me off.
Like many Americans I live hand to mouth after the middle of the month. Returning cans is a necessary part of my household economy.

Today I went to the store I go to almost everyday to buy a six pack of the 2nd lowest priced beer available.
I figured it out. Multiply $6 times  360.
$2000 dollars a year is approximately what this merchant stands to lose for not taking back my cans.
I had 50 cans the maximum he and the state allow to be returned.
One of the cans a neighbor had given me.
The merchant called me on it because he, the merchant, didn't sell that beer.
The state law required him to give me the money back.
It was my right and I did not need to be informed the can had not been bought in his store.
It did not matter.

Possibly I over reacted.
I said to him.
"Do you mean your not going to take my cans back?"
And I left my daily 6 pack on the counter, took my cans and left determining that he would never get another dollar from me.

Problem is I like the people, they're immigrants and hard working people up against the wall trying to stay alive
just like me with all the cards stacked against them...
just like me.

But his willingness to pick out a can not sold in his store was not legal.
He was obligated to give me a refund.
I'm willing to forgive him.
I like the guy and his wife.
But this was wrong.

As I think about this I realize it was my economic extremity which provided the impetus for my reaction to someone I liked doing business with.
If the money didn't matter to me I would have shrugged it off and thought nothing of it.
(I need to address this with him which means me eating crow)
But you know it's hard not having a dollar in your pocket
and having to return cans to get a little relief from the reality which society and poverty imposes on ones soul can be humiliating.

This is my experience after having worked my whole life
providing taxes for the continuation of a society
that at the end turned its back on me.
So I'm a little bitter about that.
I'm sure you will be too when you discover
it has happened to you.

Oddly the bible recognizes the necessities
this kind of situation imposes on the victims
and provides a remedy.
Where is that bible thumper Mike Pence arguing loud and long for beer for the poor?
Do you hear him?

My feeling is he has a problem with implementing that part of the bible.
Hanging Gays is OK with Mikey Boy
but beer for the poor,
no way!

We have lots of beer
and not so many jobs.
Come on Mike you're making God look bad.

So what am I saying?
I must not be so rash is one thing
because the merchant and I are in a life and death struggle with the same foe.

I must know my rights.
You must know your rights.

I must defend my rights.
You must defend your rights
if you and I wish to have them as rights.

I must be compassionate in the defense of my rights.
If each of us were this way,
forgiving but yet requiring justice,
how would that work out?
Think about compassionate justice.

How would that work out?

I came home with my cans.
A friend bought me a 6 pack after seeing how I had been treated and when I got home I sat down and drank it
and in the process wrote this.

but you know, it's not a solitary howl,
it's a chorus
and those singing make up most of the people on the planet.

I have an idea.

Poetry and social commentary: Waking Up From The American Dream In Line At The Food Bank

Like many Americans I make use of the community food bank out of necessity. Fresh fruit and vegetables are simply too costly making the food bank a necessary weekly stop for large portions of the community.

Today I came home with potatoes, celery, organic blueberries, yogurt, oatmeal and eggs. I'm always happy when they have the yogurt. I was happy to see the oatmeal because I've been out of it for three weeks.

I composed the poem today while standing in line with others and thinking about how poorly the country has been managed and how if the economy were managed justly everyone would have a bounty.

But instead we have food banks.  I'm glad we have them because I'd be malnourished or starve without the local food bank. But you and I both know that a different, more Socialist, management approach of administrating the national wealth could make the situation a whole lot better for a whole lot of people.

America is on the ropes and the Republicans and Democrats are at fault for mismanaging the economy while serving the interests of Wall Street and the Corporate Community creating the diseased social environment we find ourselves in at the moment.

America your poor are waking up. Some are cranky, some unhappy, but damned near all of us are ready for a change.

Waking Up From The American Dream In Line At The Food Bank

I woke from the American Dream
standing in a line at the food bank
that stretched from 3 to 4:30
along the side of the warehouse.

I woke after 50 years of grinding at the mill
with nothing to show for it
but an empty stomach,
and an empty wallet
with both hands in my pockets
shivering in the wind and rain with others,
some not old enough to have dreamed.

Some like me who believed and dreamed
until somewhere along the way they also woke
hungry and broke,
run down by the American Dream
and left for dead,
standing, shivering in the wind and rain
in line at the food bank.

Faces: memories of the Bush-Cheney Wars (poetry)

After posting the poems below, which are political in nature, I discovered this film interview of  Paul Krassner, a 20th century political humorist.

Be sure to look at it and remark to yourself how much things change they continue to end up the same way.

And by the way.  The Fugs have attempted an exorcism of the White House.
Click the link.
Let's hope the exorcism works.

Ichabod: The Second Year Of Trump Begins

Ichabod! Here we are entering the second year of the Presidency of Donald Trump. It is at long last become evident to most Americans that something is so far wrong that there is a sense America is irrevocably broken. Below I've written what I regard to be the reason I think that is the case and I have included what I regard as the only means to begin to remedy the situation.

The first full year of the Trump Administration has been, for lack of a more technical description, a disaster such as one might expect when a semi-truck collides broadside with a honey wagon. The Donald Trump Administration stinks to high heavens and the so called level headed ones lauded by the msm in his Administration are hard core neo-liberals hell bent on keeping the promise of endless war profits. That promise was made at the beginning of this century. They have done their best.

While the Trumpster has spent the year making us laugh, worry, and curse his every word and gesture the old war machine has been relentlessly keeping on keeping on. War is not expected to end anytime soon as the wealth generated from the endless war program to date has been astronomical.

It's worse than first imagined. The Trumpster's Dumb Show has provided a smokescreen to enable those who promised endless war to get on with their bloody plans.

We've plodded through Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen. Now Iran and Korea, all three of them, are waiting for the next shoe to drop. The President's 'sane level headed' staff have seen that this program continues, and have seen to it that now the Trumpster agrees with them.

Obviously it is the Republicans and the Democrats who are responsible for the state of the nation. It's obvious because they hold all the authority to make official decisions. The American people put them in charge and they did to the nation what you see today and read about in the news. It is all their doing. They have proven themselves to be unfaithful stewards of the public welfare.

Unless of course you like it this way and believe it or not some do like it this way. Those people would be the corporate donors. If you voted Republican or Democratic you have no cause to complain, you helped them. One conclusion I have come to is that if a candidate takes corporate donations he does not get my vote.  Period.

Corporations are legal people.  However they cannot vote and they ARE NOT citizens. But even though they are ineligible to vote they are allowed to affect and interfere with the outcome of elections in the United States. Does that seem right to you?  Should someone with the status of a foreigner (in so far as citizenship and voting rights goes) be allowed to contribute to candidates? Are only American corporations allowed to donate?  What would be the difference between an American corporation that cannot vote affecting the election process and a foreign corporation that cannot vote affecting the election process?

With all the talk of election fraud and foreign players and palace intrigue the greatest influence on the outcome of U.S. elections happens to be from those who cannot vote. How is it this is not reported in the corporate media as a big part of the reason the U.S. is in such a socially discontented condition today?

Frankly I think we the people are fundamentally screwed. No one in their right mind believes any change for the good can come from a society controlled by those who take donations from corporations. Our voting habits have indicated we will choose one of these loathsome sell-outs over a good decent candidate from a third party anytime. This is due in part to the corporate influence over the news. But it is also due to the simple-mindedness of the electorate who election after election keep making things worse for themselves.

If any change for the good is to come from the past the past must become the past. Goodbyes must be said to Republicans and Democrats, goodbyes to corporate election thieves. Adios assholes!

Only the people can make it happen and all they have to do is decide never to vote for a candidate that takes money from someone who wants political favors but is unable to vote themselves. That is the cause of the current miasma that has sickened social life on Main Streets all across the nation. Corporate people who cannot vote are affecting the outcome of our supposedly free elections. Why is that not considered insanity?

That's the first step. Stop letting people forbidden to vote from influencing our elections. If that doesn't make sense then nothing makes sense. But I suggest it makes every bit as much sense as forbidding Russian nationals from influencing our election. Neither is allowed to vote. Why should only one be allowed to influence the outcome of the election? (rhetorical question)  The Republican and Democratic solution to this would be to let the foreign nationals also interfere in order to keep the donations rolling in.  Crazy situation isn't it? That's why we're in the mess we're in.

But that is only the window dressing.  We need to change our minds about how we go about relating to other people and the environment. This society we find ourselves embedded in is designed to drive us to distraction with one thing after another. The Trump Administration along with the news media and the Republican and Democratic lawmakers are examples of how that works.

So, if that is the case, and I do think it is the case, the most significant thing we can do to regain our normal perspective is regain a sense of what it is that we are as creatures. Only as we have a clear sense of what it really means to be a human after all the gimmicks are removed can we come to our senses.

The status quo regards us as having value only insofar as we are consumers of products. Everything in the electronic media encourages us to consume products endlessly. But the production of novelties has resulted in increasing the sense of wanting more which in turn wants more and more and more. The satisfaction from making purchases, which passes for happiness, is almost always short lived.

My solution to the problems of life produced by the global capitalist society is spiritual. By that I mean I regard myself and all of us as spiritual beings who are temporarily having a material experience. In other words I view each of us as something similar to if not identical to incarnated beings. If that is the case it gives us a footing by which not to be overwhelmed by all the BS we're going through right now.

If Mankind is to help itself I think it needs to take a few giant steps back from the center of the media whirlwind and allow itself to get in touch with the voice inside of it. The voice is the real you and speaks from within you. By filling your thoughts with all the babble of the media your real self is banished and those media driven concepts which have ruined American life simply take over your thoughts, and of course they ruin your state of mind as well.

"All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him, as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the carriage."  The quotation is attributed to the Buddha and is the first verse of the Dhammapada the translation is by F. Max Muller.

Here's the secret. The goal in correcting society is achieved by one person at a time coming to change his or her mind.  As long as we understand ourselves as being in a slugfest for survival with everyone else we will always have cause for fear and enemies. That is the condition a materialistic understanding of human nature produces. Dog eat dog, get what you can before you die because when you're dead you're dead. As long as one holds to a materialistic understanding of his being the solution hoped for will be very difficult if not impossible for some to find. A correct and redeeming approach to life is fundamentally achieved by how we view our selves as humans being. (not a typo).

So, things being as they are, many want to change the world and society, and remove political tyranny. It's a good plan. But if we are going to succeed we first have to change our mind. If we do not rebuild society with a changed mind that has produced a renewed recognition within ourselves about what it means to be humans we should not waste our time.

So what do you do?
Well take time everyday to be alone.
Actively INTEND to inquire into the nature of your being.
Above all limit your media input the way you limit your intake of poison.
Continue to do this daily.
Most importantly this is personal work.
Most of it will be done alone.
The reason for this is when you hear your own inner voice that is not manipulated by media content the answer you arrive at will be yours alone.
That is of most importance.

The first positive effect you will notice is that your attitude has softened and you will also notice a diminished frequency of internal arguments going on inside of yourself. The reason for this is that by removing the media input you will also be removing all the contradictory and perplexing foolishness the news provides to fill your mind with. You can drive yourself nuts trying to find a way to make it all make sense. It's like giving a kitten a ball of yarn, except it's not funny.

It's time to take a deep breath and reconsider if you want the present conditions to exist next year.
The first step is to get a grip on yourself.
The second step is don't ever vote for a candidate that takes corporate donations.
That's how we got into this mess.

I hope the ideas presented provide the way to make the best of the future that awaits.

The zeitgeist really does seem to have revealed a 'now or never' moment in the second decade of the 21st century.

Ichabod! The glory has departed.

A Rant, A Poem, A Prayer To Be Delivered From Evil

A little rant after seeing how the rat bastards that run our government are going about starving off the poor. It was done to the Natives of the 19th and 20th centuries right here in the land of the rich, the white and the economically mobile. Now in the 21st century the poor working class of any color or race is the last remaining target of the oligarchic criminal class currently making laws and making life miserable for almost all of us.

Got a notice from the Daily Kos on the topic of the government thinking of more ways to hurt those who need help. That seems to be DT's goal. Once again it is by removing food from those who need it.
Rant below
-----------------------------

The motherfuckers are going to reduce the amount of food the poor have... once more.
All I can think right now is to say: Fuck you Republicans and Democrats.
Just fuck you. And I don't mean it in a love making way
I mean fuck you!

I'm hungry.
I know people hungry and hurting,
I'm one of them.
And you rat bastards riding the gravy train are gonna cut food stamps so those hurting the most hurt even more? What does Mike Pence think of this?

Fuck you. You're not out of your mind:
you've lost you're goddamned soul.
You're not stupid!
You're goddamned evil,
the spawn of Satan...
Fuck you.

You're starving the people in Yemen too.
You bastards must love starving people.
I get the feeling its part of your religion.
the "for profit only" religion.
Does Mike Pence agree with taking food from those in need?
Lord save us!!!!!!
and FUCK YOU.

---------------------

End of rant.
It kind of turned into a poem as I was writing and then when reading it I thought some politically minded musicians, poets etc could make something of this which would have a positive impact with regard to social change.

New Years Eve On The Pond December 30, 2017 ( video and poetry the events of the day)

New Years Eve On The Pond December 30, 2017

December 31 was bright and sunny in the low to mid 40's (Fahrenheit) and just downright pretty all day. To top it off a pair of good sized Canada Geese were feeding in the grass in front of the pond across the street.

The pair had arrived the day before and they stayed throughout the afternoon of New Years Eve.

Toward late afternoon the blue skies began to accommodate a cloudy gauze that moved in from the coast and obscured to some extent the Super-Moon as it began to rise over the foot hills.

All in all you'd have a hard time getting me to willingly exchange the time spent on this little project for time spent playing a video game.

Enjoy!

Chinook River Reverie (video and poetry)

Along the highway is a river that empties into the sea.  I always admire it when I pass by.  It is a serene inspiring setting strongly affected by the tides that wash in and out.

One time when passing by I had my camera.  As a result I can share the experience with you.

Included in the video is a brief poem I composed while standing there watching the water twisting and swirling like taffy being pulled with invisible hands.

All Things New: a plan for restoring American society based on Psalm 37

Something is going on.  Something is happening. Look around you. The entire world is responding in disapproval of the behavior of the United States.

At home the majority of folks have been struck down hard by Republican and Democratic lawmakers who have picked their pocket in yet another tax plan. This tax plan could very well be the most anti-human taxation proposed by the two ruling political parties. According to the United Nations the plan will create a greater economic equality gap in the U.S. with the poor becoming even more impoverished. While all poverty hurts it is poor children who are harmed the greatest. Whereas approximately 13 % of the general public is stricken with poverty, children are hit the hardest. According to the National Center For Children In Poverty 21 percent of children live in families that are impoverished.

This means some kids don't have enough to eat.  I have volunteered at the food bank and helped pack boxes with food especially for kids to take in backpacks to school. It broke my heart to see so many people in need. It still does. It matters very little to our politicians who have the means to remedy the situation.  But they have other priorities.

With the passing of the healthcare legislation by the Republican and Democratic lawmakers it is finally evident neither party is acting with good will toward those who live on Main Street.

The American College of Physicians (ACP) has voiced fears that millions of Americans will lose the healthcare they need due to the legislative activities of the Republican and Democratic lawmakers who received from their corporate supporters  9.6 million dollars for their work on tax legislation during the first nine months of this year. (2017)  These statistics come from the website Open Secrets.Org.

It should be apparent even to sheep with woolen cataracts that Republicans and Democrats both really just don't care for those who live on Main Street.  With friends like them we don't need any enemies, they'll do fine.

Remember it has been Republican and Democratic lawmakers working together who have made America what it has become. Now it is what the people need to change if they are planning leaving behind a life worth living for those who come after.

I'd say it's time to throw them out of office by electing people who value human life and want to transform the present social miasma into a society that operates on the basis of values originating from fairness and justice. That can be accomplished using the rules already in place if THE PEOPLE choose to do it.

Why not choose to do it? Sounds like a good idea doesn't it? Otherwise, we're just victims of the fury.

The answer is blowing in the wind.  Or less poetically, questions are being asked and conclusions arrived at by Americans of every political persuasion. This unifying phenomenon has come about because most Americans are living in uncertainty and fear for what the future will bring as a result of the capricious anti-human legislative activities of the Republicans and the Democrats.

Alternative news agencies, some helpful, some not, have brought startling and sometimes upsetting ideas into the political atmosphere. These are the voices blowing in the wind. It is the 'Spirit' of the present moment because it results from the anguish of our hearts, we are terrified of the future the Republicans and Democrats are determined to bring about.

So how are we to live and what are we to do to take control of the Ship of State from the profit crazed Ahab and his investors dragging us to our doom?

Well we can vote differently. We can stop voting for Republicans and Democrats, their plans are not the plans Main Street wants.  More importantly and more primary is the need to change our mind about how to accomplish bringing about a just society.

Arriving at a 'Just' society is in many ways a 'spiritual' endeavor. It is spiritual because it involves human beings interacting in ways that result in no one getting screwed and everyone getting benefited.

Recently I read Psalm 37. It impressed me so much I made a video incorporating it into the themes of justice, fair play, environmental catastrophe and endless war.

It is helpful, if not necessary, to understand our common existential condition from the perspective of our 'Bigger' picture. By that I mean the overwhelming mystery of the fact of existence. Something was smart enough to start the ball rolling, smart enough to direct things to become what we have decided to become.

If we look around it is not too difficult to understand a lot of bad choices have been made. If our problems are the result of the choices we have made what is stopping us from making different choices that will have different outcomes?

Here's the video I made.  It's titled "All Things New".
